Kotronas - Skopa beach

09-08-2022

The eastern or sunny Mani hides incredible beauties, idyllic beaches, unique landscapes. Where the hot stone of towers and castles meets sunlight and turquoise waters. The beaches, many and different, to choose the one that satisfies your tastes.

One beach, however, that you must visit is hidden and known only to the locals and the most experienced explorers: Skopa Beach or Double Beach.

Arriving at the village of Kotrona, continue to the left and find the Skopa peninsula. There, a thin strip of land joins the islet with Kotronas forming two coves, two picturesque beaches with coarse, dark pebbles.

The peninsula is the sea citadel of ancient Teuthroni and is 300 meters long. In fact, in winter, the sea covers the narrow strip and turns the peninsula into a real island.

On the "Island", as the Maniates call it, stands the stone-built church of Agios Nikolaos, with an amazing view towards the two beaches. The chapel was built on top of the ancient temple of Issoria Artemis, where you can even see the ruins scattered around the grounds.

Also, on the northwest side of the right beach there are ruins of Roman Thermal Baths.
